The convention’s theme, “Widening the Scope,” encourages scholars and educators to explore new perspectives and interdisciplinary connections within the communication field.

Gloria Vanderham COM, JMS ’00, Chief Executive Officer and founder of Bliss Bio Health, LLC, has been nominated for and selected as a member of the 2025 cohort of the Loyal Sons and Daughters of Rutgers, the Rutgers Alumni Association’s highest honor.

This year’s theme, “Contemporary Problems, Creative Solutions,” highlights the role of Communication Studies in addressing today’s complex challenges.

“As a first-generation student I had zero connections, and I wish someone had told me how important that truly is when searching for a job. When my peers who had a connection immediately got a job while I waited almost a year, it crushed me. But it’s ok, start making connections as soon as you can,” Jaylynn Cardona COM’22 said.

“Any experience is valuable if you keep learning and growing from it,” said Laureano, speaking about her extensive career with NBC.

A class enrichment activity planned by Assistant Professor of Professional Practice in Journalism and Media Studies Neal Bennett developed the students’ professional and networking skills in practical and lasting ways.

“My biggest advice for current students is to take full advantage of every resource available and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Some of the best opportunities come from simply putting yourself out there,” said Verma.

“After being at SC&I, I began thinking about how I could combine my interests in policy and law with journalism and continue expanding myself,” Wilson said.
