The Ph.D. program in Communication, Information, and Media offers advanced training in theoretical and research skills for scholarly and professional leadership in communication, library and information science, and media studies.
This strategic combination of fields prepares you to address key questions facing society in the 21st century. You’ll examine the structure and role of communication, information, and media institutions, policies, processes, and systems—and their impact on individuals, organizations, and society, both nationally and globally.
The program strongly supports and encourages interdisciplinary approaches to these complex and evolving issues.

The Ph.D. program in Communication, Information, and Media holds a prestigious STEM designation, qualifying international students for a 24-month Optional Practical Training (OPT) extension.
Ph.D. Colloquia
Ph.D. Colloquium (16:194:600) is required each semester while students are completing coursework. This weekly forum features research and professional presentations by guest speakers, faculty, and students. Meets Wednesdays, 12:00–1:30 p.m., Room 222.
