The Department of Communication is dedicated to advancing knowledge about communication and its practice in society. The department examines how meaning is created and negotiated in human interaction to address the personal, professional, and public communication challenges and opportunities posed by 21st century life.  Our students become leaders in private, public and civil sectors by developing a deep and practical appreciation of how communication shapes the world in which we live.

The Department of Journalism and Media Studies is a dynamic community of students, scholars, and media professionals dedicated to understanding media’s role in public life, culture, and democracy. Through cutting-edge research, hands-on production, and critical analysis, our programs prepare students to report with integrity, create with purpose, and contribute new knowledge about today’s rapidly evolving journalism and media landscape.

The Department of Library and Information Science has a distinguished record of research, education, and community outreach that spans many decades. It is a founding member of the iSchools organization, and our programs are recognized by Rutgers University through its national rankings as some of its best.
