Degree Requirements
Students accepted into the Journalism and Media Studies major complete 33 credits of Journalism and Media Studies coursework plus one interdisciplinary SC&I requirement. All courses must be completed with a grade of C or better.
As a Journalism and Media Studies major, you will take courses that faculty members have carefully crafted and continuously refined to help you build understanding and skills that will be useful while on campus and in your career. These offerings will provide a foundation in your exploration of areas such as:

Choose two Journalism and Media Studies courses designated as practice-based. These are typically focused on skills like reporting, production, and digital editing. (Course listings vary by semester.)
Choose two Journalism and Media Studies courses designated as concept-based, including at least one at the 400-level. These courses focus on media theory, analysis, and critical frameworks.
You may choose any Journalism and Media Studies course to fulfill these credits, including additional foundation, practice, or concept courses. One of the elective courses must come from this approved list addressing diversity, difference, and social justice:
