Program Assessment
Systematic planning and program assessment are essential to our operations.
In 2019, the Rutgers MI (formerly MLIS) program was granted accreditation by the American Library Association. The program presentation was submitted in August 2018. In January 2019, the program was granted continued accreditation through 2025. The program also submits a Biennial report outlining interim program developments. The most recent was submitted in February 2025.
Student Retention Rate
The Term over Term (ToT) persistent rate is defined as the percentage of active students (minus graduates) from the previous term who returned for the current term. Because Summer is not a required term in the MI program, but still an intake, the Fall ToT rate is calculated using Spring actual students (minus spring and summer graduates, plus summer starts) who return for the Fall term.
The average ToT persistence rates (adjusted for the Summer term) for the Master of Information program:
| Year | 2022 | 2023 | 2024 | 2025 |
| Percent | 71.4% | 74.0% | 76.6% | 84% |
Average Time to Degree Completion
For academic years 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025, the average time to degree completion has consistently been 2.25 years. The Master of Information program has a three-year time limit for completion. Most part-time students complete their studies within that time frame or less, due to the availability of course offerings in Summer and Winter sessions. Full-time students typically complete the program within 1.5 to 2 years.
Career Outcomes
