Biography

Amy Jordan’s research and teaching examine the role of media in the lives of children and adolescents, with particular attention to how media shape development, family life, and health across the life span. She also collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to design and test culturally sensitive, health-related media campaigns for diverse communities.

She is the author and editor of books including “Media and the Well-Being of Children and Adolescents” and “Children, Adolescents, and Media: The Future of Research and Action.” Her scholarship appears in journals such as Journal of Communication, Pediatrics, Communication Research, Journal of Family Communication, and Media Psychology, and has been supported by agencies and foundations including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the National Captioning Institute.

In 2018, she was elected to the Board of Trustees of Sesame Workshop, where she currently chairs the Education Committee, helping to bridge research on children and media with the design of educational content for children and families around the world. She served as president of the International Communication Association from 2015 to 2016, and as co-editor of the Journal of Children and Media from 2012 to 2020.
