Biography

Melissa Gasparotto's research historically situates the collection and transformation of linguistic data within broader socio-political contexts to reveal how the curation and deployment of these datasets are not merely technical processes, but are deeply embedded in distinct histories, structures, and politics. This work seeks to expose areas where language technology development decisions were and continue to be contingent, thereby opening up alternate possibilities for more just practices and outcomes in the future.
