Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Communicate complex ideas effectively to a general audience and/or a specific audience in modes appropriate to reach them effectively.
  • Evaluate and critically assess sources and use the conventions of attribution and citation correctly.
  • Analyze and synthesize information and ideas from multiple sources to generate persuasive arguments and generate an effect to the benefit of your organization or institution. 

Teaching Objectives

  • Demonstrate proficiency in writing and communications strategy development skills. Apply prior analysis, research, and critical thinking that should precede producing any published or shared work.
  • Explain the importance of integrity and ethics in the workplace, understanding that personal integrity in the conduct of a career is a priceless commodity and that the ethical conduct of a strategy or campaign is a necessity. Reputation marks a professional career, one way or the other.
  • Propose and justify a point of view or an idea internally to the institutional decision-makers and externally to the broader target audience.
  • Identify the audience needing to be reached, shaping a message to achieve an established goal and utilizing the proper medium/media to reach that group.
