Biography

Martha Whiteley is a public relations expert with corporate and agency experience in successfully driving awareness of pharmaceuticals, healthcare, technology, consumer products, business systems and performing arts. She has developed and implemented strategic campaigns to drive the growth of such brands as Caltrate®, Centrum®, Technics, and Panasonic.

Whiteley's teaching focuses on public relations and strategic communication planning. She is also a professor of media and communications at the undergraduate and graduate level at Montclair State University. Her goal as an educator is to provide students with the practical knowledge and skills to succeed in the profession, and prepare graduates to be ethical communicators and advocates in a world that is more mobile, connected, and diverse than ever before. 

As the corporate communications manager for Panasonic, Whiteley spearheaded strategic public relations campaigns and conducted media relations for the company’s consumer and business-to-business products. She was also previously public relations manager and spokesperson for Wyeth Laboratories, now Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, where she earned an Excellence in Communications Award from the International Association of Business Communicators for a documentary video on childhood vaccines.

Whiteley is a member of the Public Relations Society of America, N.J. Chapter, and a judge for the Pyramid Awards, recognizing excellence in public relations campaigns. She holds a master's degree in communications with a concentration in public relations from the New York Institute of Technology. She earned a bachelor's degree in communications with a concentration in television & radio broadcasting from Ithaca College.
