Biography
Yunhee Shim's major research interests are platform governance, content moderation, and fairness, accountability, and transparency, which fall in the fields of social computing and HCI. Her work focuses on online harm, particularly interpersonal harm, and strategies to mitigate it through moderation features. She is also interested in the moderation design features themselves, and how their affordances influence users’ perceptions, behaviors, and discourse formation in online environments.
She has received fellowship funding from SC&I as well as the the Betty Jane and Jack Hubert Endowed Scholarship at Rutgers University. Previously, she was awarded the Ku Ja-Young Scholarship from Ewha Womans University and the Korea Foundation's Global Internship Fellowship.
Her research has focused on governance challenges in online resource distribution subscription platforms for libraries, and she is currently preparing a paper on users’ perceptions of online platform content moderation strategies.
