Biography

Emma May's research extends feminist and political economy approaches to explore the politics of information in everyday activist movement-building practices, and how they are connected to interrelated struggles for racial, disability, and economic justice. She received the Outstanding Continuing Student in Information Science Award (2025) and the Outstanding Teaching Award (2024) from SC&I. She was also the recipient of the Rutgers University School of Graduate Studies Dean’s Fellowship (2022-2023), and the Jane S. Gould Award for Outstanding Senior Essay awarded by Barnard College (2018). May serves on the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) Ad Hoc Committee on AI & the Profession, and is a co-editor of the Journal of Critical Library and Information Studies special issue on concerns of labor and technology in information fields.
