Biography
Cynthia Mathews is a digital asset management professional with over 25 years of experience helping organizations bring order, access, and meaning to their digital content. She has worked in many industries, including manufacturing, higher education, publishing, advertising, and cultural organizations. She currently works with digital assets and data-based content for Sherwin-Williams, where her role focuses on metadata strategy and implementation, empowering users and connecting pieces in increasingly expansive content ecosystems.
She started her career in the Prints and Photographs collection at the Chicago History Museum, where she discovered the joy and challenge of organizing collections of visual materials, and also how a handwritten description on a glass plate negative can be an important piece of metadata. Mathews holds a Master of Science in Library and Information Science degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She loves swimming, especially in Lake Michigan.
