Biography

Aku Anasi (they/she) is a media studies scholar researching the circulation of Black visual media within an anti-Black (digital) world. They are particularly interested in the role of loops online (video and algorithmic) in facilitating this circulation. Bridging theories from Black Queer Studies, Digital Media Studies, and Black Feminist Studies, Anasi thinks critically about the prominence of Black digital communities as well as the coded environments Black users exist within and beyond. 

Anasi is an alumna of the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship as well as the Institute for the Recruitment of Teachers.
