vertebra protrusion...
Ok...T6 para here...got a question:
I had scoliosis after my accident...so when I was about 14 yrs old...I had lukee rods placed in the spine with fusion. I am now 32...haven't noticed much of a difference in the way I sit or think my rods have slipped or anything. But I now noticed that what appears to be boney protrustion on my left side. (I think its my rib cage..since I know they cut off part of that way back when I had the surgery). Question is...is this something that I should think about having trimmed down surgically? It does get red now when I sleep on my side...but other than that it doesn't really bother me...except freaking my wife out. |

Hi,
How long ago did this appear? If this is new I would have it checked out-boney abnormalities are usually pretty straightforward to check out through xray. Also, if it is getting red, it could be getting excessive pressure and is a potential source for pressure sores. Make sure you do good turning schedule and keep pressure off that area. AAD AAD |

I found out (seeing my SCI doc today)...that this is my lower rib cage that has a "bur" on it (watery sack from the constant rubbing/irritation) it gets from rubbing against the back of my chair.
Doc didn't think shaving the rib cage down would be good if I can avoid is surgically (since a Thorasic surgeon would need involved apparenly). He suggested making some type of "padding" for my chair so that I don't hit on that spot when I sit. Does anyone have any suggestions or has made (or knows where to buy) this time of padding? thanks, Kovy |

My T-5 vertebra sticks out farther than any other - it's in the middle of where my spine hunches and my curve really takes off.

I would try to see a seating specialist who knows what is out there that would work. If you have a rehab hospital in your area there is often a PT or OT who does seating. They should be able to help you
