Sore (?) on my foot...

I know this might sound trivial, but I'm quite worried.
It's about a mark on my foot...I don't know if it qualifies as a "sore", as such.

About 2 or 3 weeks ago, I one day noticed a red mark on the toe next to the little toe on my right foot. It's on the top of first joint (nearest the foot).

I thought it was because I'd been wearing trainers a lot (I usually rotate between shoes, boots and trainers), so I started wearing my shoes.
But, this red mark is now a bit worse, and I don't know what to do.

I've been leaving my foot uncovered as much as possible, and wearing sandals, but it's not getting any better.

Just a few minutes ago, I pressed the mark a few times (I've avoided touching it much before), and it doesn't blanch.

Should I be doing anything else?

Make sure your sandal straps are not rubbing there, and that you are not sitting someplace where your toe has pressure (under your desk, or when driving for example). A stage I can take weeks to disappear. If it breaks open or gets "mushy" you will need to see your physician.

Thank you very much, KLD.

I didn't realize this could take weeks to improve. I was panicking because it hadn't cleared up in a few days!

I'm undoing my sandal as much as possible, and only keeping it on properly for transfers. There's definitely no other time the toe has pressure on it.

I'll be sure to see a doctor if the sore worsens. Thanks again.

Hi Karen,
If your circulation is as bad as mine in the lower extremities you might want to elevate it a bit if you are just watching tv or some other activity where it could be elevated. Keep the blood flow moving as much as possible. Good luck.

Thanks, Eileen.

I have been elevating my leg at times, like when I'm on my couch. Although, I don't get massive swelling if I have my feet down, which is good. Is that a sign of decent cirulation, I wonder?
The sore actually goes purpley with my legs down - probably because my feet go red down too.

I think the fact that you don't get swelling with you legs down just means you don't have a fluid build-up in your tissues (edema), which is a very good thing, but the fact that your legs and feet go purpley and red when they are down is probably a sign of poor circulation. Nothing to worry about, just another one of those little indicators that there aren't any muscles contracting and expanding to keep the blood flow as it would have been pre-injury. Just keep taking good care of yourself

Well, I do get some swelling, but it's not very very bad.

Oh...I didn't think the purple/red colouring was a great sign.

Thank you for your kind words Eileen.

I have a small scar in that spot from the same thing. I kept an eye on it like you are doing and it healed OK.

It's nice to hear things like this.

My toe looks better today...it doesn't seem as red as before.
