5th Generation Roomba's

Just a note for anybody considering a Roomba I just wanted to share my experiences with my new Roomba 530.

First of all it picks up a amazing amount of stuff out of carpet. I did a quick vaccuum last night with my old Hoover Quick Stick & the Roomba went over the same carpet today & the difference is unbelievable. The carpet is actually clean now!

My theory on the Quick Stick is that I don't generate enough pressure onto the carpet to allow it to generate enough suction.

Best of all the Roomba gets into all those little awkward spaces you can't get close enough to with a conventional vacuum & wheelchair.

The downsides are 1) the carrying handle isn't too gimp friendly, its really hard to pull up on the handle to pick the Roomba up off the floor. Hard to actually get it to come up out of the Roomba body in the first place & it doesn't have enough "travel" to come up to a 90 degree angle to get a good grip on it to lift it.

2) It doesn't really like power or cable cords. It got really tangled up in the corner where my cable internet & tv cords plug into the wall. Since its not a high traffic area in my house I'm just going to stick something between tv stand & the computer so the Roomba won't travel into that area.

3) It can & will knock over plastic garbage cans so you might want to empty those before you let the Roomba do its thing.

4) It doesn't do too well in tight corners like the area around a tub. Pick up some but not all the dirt.

Anyway just thought I would let people that are sitting on the fence or weren't impressed with the older Roomba's that the new ones seem to be great. Best early Christmas present I've ever got!

Anybody have any experience with the Roomba Scooba?

Canuck, it sounds great! I could use something like that, but my fear is that my kitties would stroke out from fear

They say it doesn't bother animals & cats would have a easier time evading it. Maybe I'll have my mom bring her puppy over on the weekend & see how she deals with it. Then again having stiches out & a Roomba encounter on the same day might be asking too much of Kaylee...

I live with two of the most paranoid, feral babies you could possibly imagine and they took less than 20 minutes to get used to the Roomba. I'm pretty happy with mine.

I got the model 530. I think they are normally around $387 or so at Canadian tire.
