Colonoscopy / position

Does anyone have any recomendations of where to have the hardware installed. I want to able to sleep on my side and dont want the hardware to interfere? Also I question if it will cause any additional Neuo Path pain? Any suggestions. Surgury in 2 weeks. I will be done with my raised toliet seat, and hopefully have a better life. Thanks, Mikey

colonoscopy is done in a left side lying position. you'll be out for 15-20 and you'll never even know when it starts or is over. not much to worry about. just tell the doc to be aware of AD, but the anesthesiologist always questions you before so tell him/her as they will watch the BP closely

SCI patients have colonoscopies with great regularity and do well. As crags said, you will be given some medication (usually versid) that will takes away the memory of hte procedure ever being done. Cautioning re AD is an excellent suggestion. The biggest problem I've seen is that a thorough bowel prep is essential. I've known patients who had to repeat the prep and test if they are not properly clear in the bowel department.

Yes I agree, lol. I read the post a couple of times earlier today and the colonoscopy responses didn't really seem to talk about any "hardware" positions.

OOps, so I guess many of us were confused with colonoscopy vs colostomy.

Mikey, did you get your original question answered and get the information you need?

Sorry Im a bonehead./.. but yes I am having a COLONOSTOMY (TIE OFF INTESTINES). I have sin burning in my mid section. I am a T-12 injury. I worry that the connector plastic peice might case terrible pain or even cause AD if mounted near the spot. It hurts even to lightly rub the areas when my skin pain is active. Also, anything else negative I should know???? Please tell me now. IAM AWARE OF THINGS LIKE SMELL ETC... IM TALKING ABOUT OTHER COMPLICATIONS/ Thanks, Mikey bauerzscriptz@hotmail.com

Hi Mikey,

Sounds like you are having a "colostomy."
This is a common straight forward surgery that has been done for a long, long time. It should not be hard to find a website where you could download information. Give me a little time to find it.

Also, we can talk about your concerns about your midsection sensitivity.

I will tell you that I know of a para T9 who had this surgery a few months ago and it went very smoothly. He says his bowel care has been so much easier!

A question: Do you get AD? My experience has been that AD usually occurs with high level quads mainly.

I have a colostomy as of this past January (I'm 6+ yrs post though). There's nothing to worry about. It's a simple procudure, heals quickly, and like Sci-Nurse said, makes bowel management SO much easier (it did for me at least). I'm C6/7 & have experienced zero AD or pain from it, and yes, I have sensation throughout my body.
