trying to have a baby

Can you please advise me on whom to consult or a specialist for a workup regarding getting a sperm count? I have been trying with my wife to be able to have a baby although i am SCI T9 - T11. The past 4 years have been futile.

Are there success stories where male post injury SCI were still able to have a baby with their partners? Any advise will be appreciated.

Hi iskumbro ... I moved your post to the 'family' forum, instead of the cure forum.

Good luck!

Any decent urologist should be able to arrange a sperm count and semen analysis for you. I assume you are ejaculating? Or are you asking for a clinic to help you ejaculate? Be sure to collect the specimen and deliver to the lab exactly as instructed.

There is a subspecialty in urology for male fertility problems. It is called andrology. Ask your urologist for a referral if they don't know much about this area.

Keep in mind it is not just the count, but also the morphology (shape) and motility (how quickly they swim) of your sperm that is important, and SCI can impair all of these factors.

I have a number of clients who have fathered children after their SCI. A few did it naturally as they were ejaculating on their own and obviously had good semen. Most needed to use some form of ART (artificial reproductive technology), which can be quite expensive.

Hi SCI-Nurse (KLD)

I will do see a urologist.
I do ejaculate but somehow I noticed that ejaculation during sex with my wife can take so long (sometimes it does not even happen)

And if this is the case when there is impairment, will it be impossible to father a baby?

Impossible to say without the semen analysis. Can you ejaculate with masturbation? That would be required to obtain a specimen for analysis.
