To Care Cure..

I started my journey in the "SCI community" a year and half ago. I was "quadded" and sent out into life. I stayed busy w/ rehab the first few months and even stayed @ a nursing facility/ rehab until my home was accessible. I stayed strong for my family and I guess b/c I was scared of what would happen if I lost it.
While in the nursing facility, I met many worse off than myself and tried to inspire them and lift their spirits.I stayed so occupied, I left no room to think about me. Then I went home......
So many of you know the lonesome and overwhelming feelings that being home gives. You think home will be so much better, but you're left just thinking "wtf now?". Slowly I started trying to pick upthe pieces and learning new techniques for living. I still kept a huge smile w/ my family and while visiting the nursing facilty I'd left. I even started mentoring new quads while I was battling depression. I longed for people like me I could lean on.I searched for forums only to find those that were practicly inactive or not for me.Then I found Care Cure. I was amazed @ all the threads as I lurked before posting. I don't even think I introduced myself. Anyhoo, I'm impressed by the family atmosphere(fights and crazy posts included). Many of you have inspired me. Knowing I can click on CC everyday to get some comfort, surrounded w/ people like me is an amazing feeling. I just wanted to say thank you to those that make this site!

You and I have a lot in common. Can't believe you were born in 79, I was in college by then LOL! Glad you found us. It's a huge relief to know we're not alone.

The first year post-SCI, I couldn't read CC. Just couldn't believe this had happened, that this was my life. Reading about real people experiencing all the complications was a lot harder than hearing about them in rehab. Eventually I came to grips and realized all those real-life experiences might well save my life.

I wish there was a way to smooth the transition to home. I thought all would be well, once I got home. Wasn't prepared for the loneliness. It was wonderful to be with my family, but so overwhelming.

Ain't that the truth.

CareCure, and the inspiration of certain members in particular, saved me from my own apathy
