L'shanah tovah!

For our Jewish members, since nobody else has said it:

Mazel tov to all Hebrews. I had no idea they had a festival today.

Vive l'Israël!

Would one of our Jewish members explain the High Holy Days for the rest of us? I understand the sealing of Yom Kippur but not the entire New Year and how that fits in.

Coincidentially, I believe Ramadan began yesterday as the day before had no moon seen from Mecca. To our Muslim members I hope you live someplace cool this month. I was in Istanbul last year when Ramadan ended. Very interesting holiday as explained by our guide.

Thanks, Steven,

Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year. The Jewish year is lunar-based, rather than solar, so the Jewish leap year includes an extra month. The days between the first day of Rosh Hashanah, which is two days, and Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement for sins of the past year) is called the 10 Days of Penitence.

It's the time of year when God opens his "books" and inscribes everyone in his book of life or book of death. Personally I'm hopinf for the book of death. just missed out 3 yrs ago.
