I'm never comfortable in my chair.

My back aches, my butt burns (neuropathic, but it seems worse in the chair), I can't seem to get my balance right. If I'm lying in bed or in my la-z-boy I'm much more comfortable. The chair has been adjusted by a physical therapist and the chair vendor. Is there some magic combination of chair adjustment and seat cushion that will give me the same level of comfort I have in my comfy chair, or is this just the way it is?

I know what you mean, same here. One option is to lower the back if possible, it gives u more freedom to move around

same here too.i hate my wheelchairs [one is manual, one is powered]both are recliners ,i have choosed to spend most of my day in a recliner armchair,my legs elevates too.i have difficulty breathing when i seat [my trunk ]at a 90 degree angle...i must recline and the armchair is softer...doesnt kill my back so badly.i am also lucky to have a remote hospital bed.

Yes, but(t);

Zero - I sat for a couple of years on a cushion I decided was fine, which I thought were fine, it was not of course, and the butt burn made me shift to another cushion, which I should have done long time ago at that point. It helped; still the butt burn is present. But this pain (ass pain) is not naturopathic pain. Its just wear and tear on lost muscles making the distance between the butt bones and the surface one sit on less, thus more pressure on different nerve systems still working... I have naturopathic pain in my right flank, from Th4 down to the groin area on the same side, and that is quite different, luckily this pain for me is administered by gabapentin for the time being... -I sit in me wheelchair all day long, so as for cushions I find the Roho brand to help a lot, for wheelchair brand I use a Kuschall Compact, which is not tilted nor trimmed to be a race chair, but to suit me in my daily living. No low fancy backrest or anything fancy, I want it to support me, as a tool. The combination works pretty good, for me that is. But as for chair adjustments, there are many, you might want to discuss it with some working in the field, or better, to get more comments from people here in youre thread, there are many good solutions to many things here I find every now and then.

Mimin - I find a more high backrest to support more, say when sitting here and typing like now.

That's it, I'm getting a Roho. It's been recommended to me so many times on this site already. I wish I had known a bit more about these things before I ordered my chair.

Thanks everyone.

Zero - Roho is a cushion not a chair just to underscore that one, you also want to explore if you want a low profile or a high one, even whith adjustable chambers. For you, try a low profile first. More here; http://www.therohogroup.com/index.jsp I have a low profile, and it is really good stuff. For your injury as I see, try one of those.

Hi Zero,

If you can, try out a Jay2 cushion too. I've had both Rohos and for the last 18 years about four Jay2 "overfilled" cushions. My butt is getting boney so I need the extra "Flo-Lite" material in the Jay2 cushion pad so order it "overfilled". You'll be more stable in a Jay2... it kinda feels like you get "glued" into it. I always felt as though I was sitting on my Roho but sitting in my Jay2.

If you have feeling in your butt area the Roho may be the better cushion for you. But as I already wrote, it would be nice if you could give them both a try and choose the one that's best suited for you.

I've never had a pressure sore on my butt and I sit for long hours without doing weight-shifts like I should. Both cushions are good, they just feel and distribute your weight a little differently. I think the Jay2 weighs a bit more though.

Good luck,

Bob.

Zero,

I have the same issues and no cushion has helped. I've tried every cushion out there, the Roho cells really bothered me. The cushion i have on my chair now is air filled I can't remember the name right off my head but it seems to help the most out of all of them but still burns.

I'm not sure if its because my ass doesn't have enough fat on it or what, but my back and ass is constantly burning and hurting while sitting for 5 mins or more.

I have an Isch-Dish made by Span America. It's the most comfortable
cushion i've had. It has a tailbone dip too, so no redness.
