Post My Hep C treatment

About six years ago, I found a really good gastroenterologist who was recommended to me for my Hep C care. In the town I live in the medical field is not that well up to date but this doctor was recommended by a very good doctor in Houston. At that time, I had heard from my nephew, who also was battling Hep C, of a new treatment which had a lot of promise for a cure or remission of this virus. I was very hopeful that it would help me no matter what side effects I may have to deal with. This doctor was the only one in my town who offered that treatment. He has turned out to be a really great and patient doctor. We discussed the treatment and we came to a decision to go for it. I started it and the trip through it was really very hard to travel. I stayed on it for approximately three months but he had to take me off of it since it had become too much for my body. I had to meet with anemia which left me so weak that I ended in the hospital and needing to be transfused. Aches were too much for me and tiredness. I was sad to see that I could not finish treatment and that there was no change in my viral count and other bloodwork.

Anyway, at the beginning of my treatment I wrote a poem which pretty much expressed my outlook on the treatment and my hopes at that time. Last night, I found it while going through some of my poetry files. I decided to share it after I uploaded it to my site. I am hoping that whoever reads it finds some hope and gets some strength from the words. In a way I guess it could also fit into what many of us here deal with SCI.

Btw, I still haven't lost hope of beating and getting rid of this Monster Within.

No dragon should ever come near you. Nice work, Raven.
