Dr. Lima visiting Indianapolis
I've seen questions on this site in the past regarding Dr. Lima's procedure transplanting olfactory mucosa into the spinal cord lesion. I wanted to let people know that Dr. Carlos Lima will be visiting the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana in Indianapolis, IN in July, 2007. On Thursday, July 26th (afternoon) he will be doing a presentation regarding the OMA procedure, updates, results, progress, etc. There will be 2 individuals who have had the procedure tell their personal stories. Additionally, Dr. Lima will be available on Friday, July 26th (at least) to meet with interested participants and review MRIs to assess lesion size (inclusion criteria). People that are interested in meeting on this date can call (317) 329-1730.

Out of curiousity, what's the nature of his visit? Is RHI teaming up w/ him? It's not everyday that a doctor from another corner of the globe just drops in for a presentation and/or Q&A.
I'll be in South Bend for a business trip that week; if there's good reason to drop down into Indy for a day I might consider trying to make that happen. You've read some stuff on this site; does Lima have anything different going on or is it the same old stuff, same old [lack of significant] results, etc.? Either way, thanks for the notice... |

Scott, What skeptisisim....Drs come and go all over the world to do presentations. Dr Lima has added to his procedure an its not old stuff. the stuff you read in this site its not all thats happening, if you try making your trip to Indy happen....have an open mind and give the Dr. a chance. I have heard and seen videos of people making great advancements...people who would never consider sharing their story with people like you or this site. If you make it to IN WAY TOO CRITICAL..

I'm just fishing for more info about Lima's visit, partially because I AM curious about anything new. Call me critical if you want, but I know I'm not alone here.

Scott, need you ask what Dr. Lima is up to. "meet with interested participants" = acquire new patients.

good grief... I never said he was bad, glider. Personally I haven't seen much from him thus far that holds much promise. If you would prove me wrong, I'd appreciate it. Are you aware of any published papers, etc that negate my skepticism? Admittedly I haven't done much searching recently, but I'm fairly certain nothing earthshattering has surfaced.
This isn't an argument I care to continue. You're incorrectly reading into my words well beyond what I was asking. Chill out. |

Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana has coordinated pretesting and post-surgical rehabilitation for people interested in participating in his research. I'm told they are one of a few U.S. facilities that does this. He is applying for a new project through the EU and goal is to improve opportunities in the U.S.
Priority of his coming is to visit with patients that have been through his procedure and are rehabing there and see the progress. Part of it is to meet with local researchers re: opportunities and part of it is for education (hence a presentation). People who are interested currently have to mail/send him information to Europe to be accepted. Since he's in the U.S. it's an opportunity for people to meet him in person and get questions answered, see if they meet inclusion criteria, etc. instead of waiting for mail/email. Understand skepticism because there's so much that is overdramatized in the media...but it's an opportunity to hear someone first hand and ask your questions to make a decision for yourself versus just reading what people say/think. If it's something you've considered participating in...again, I'd feel better with a face-to-face then just talking via email/phone. to avoid long distance, you can also email for more information: aseabrook@rhin.com |
