Back Problems and Pressure Wounds

Ok, I've got a bit of a delimma. I've talked with my doctors and PT's and no one seems to be able to find a solution. So maybe someone here can give some advice. A few months ago I started showing up with a pressure wound on my rear end. It seemed to come from out of the blue. I hadn't sat on anything I shouldn't have. My wheelchair seat hadn't been changed and I was doing my presure relief like I was supposed to. Then my PT noticed that my lower back and hips had changed position. My lower back has curved in so much that she can slip her arm completely under me when I'm laying on my back and it hurts to sit completely upright. It's changed the way I'm sitting which I believe is what's causing the pressure wound. The only way we've found to relieve it is to stay in bed. Not good for my mental or physical state. The longer I spend in my bed the more my blood pressure screws with me when I do get to get up. I need to get up more consitently to combat my blood pressure but then I'm making mhy wound worse. The only way out of this I can see is to either find some sort of brace to push my lower back into the right position or to have surgery to correct it and I don't wnat surgery. So my question is, does anyone know of a brace that would help or have any other suggestions?? Please help. Thank you.

I started off having to wear a corset simply because I didn't want this problem to start with me. They're a pain in the ass to get on when you get up in the morning, but definitely worth the hassle in the long run. The ride designs cushion I've been using along with my matrx back has helped a ton with my posture and I'm getting to the point with my balance that I don't need to use it for a majority of the day unless I'm going to be on rougher surfaces.

Send a message via Skype™ to lynnifer
Maybe it's time for a new wheelchair and seating evaluation?

jbinny - checking into the corset idea, thanks for the suggestion.

lynnifer - I've had my wheelchair for just over two years and unfortunatly I can't afford to get a new one or even switch the seat. My mum and I were looking things over today and realized something. I have a custome made back due to an extended shoulder blade, but it doesn't really fit. It was made while I was in rehab but I was so sick that I kept nearly passing out so they had to get the impression quickly. Unfortunatly that resulted in a back I don't actually fit into.

Honestly I think most of the mess is my own fault. I'm a comfort hound and sitting upright is uncomfortable for me so I've been reclining in my chair as much as possible. Unfortuantly I think it's what caused my lower back to curve. Now I have to find a way to roll my hips forward so I can straighten my back. This is what I get for not listening to my mum!

Anyway thanks for the suggestions.

if you read around here you'll see most nobody comes outta rehab with the correct seating or maybe it's more that we all change so much after time.

also, i haven't been comfy sittin upright ever since i been in this chair.
