They ordered the wrong chair!!!

The people that order for Kaiser ordered the worng chair?!?! We went to pick it up and the seat back was a J seat that was way too high, it had push handles and arm rests. It also had a seatbelt. The rep told us they can cut off the handles and take off the arm-rests and put another seat on it but.... We want what MIke ordered!! Cut the handles off?? F%$% that!! Kaiser paid a lot of money for this chair and these are MIke's legs now. To make things worse (or perhaps easier) the guy who ordered it doesn't work there anymore. He should have triple checked with us before ordering anything and also, he should have not had the communication going between Mike and the receptionist.

Next week we meet with the GM. C'mon, are we being unreasonable? So what if they can cut the handles and remove the armrests that is still not the chair MIke ordered!!

This was the colours spazz, oh ya and.... The "custom" wheels that we ordered separately came all scratched up!!

UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope you didn't accept it - if not you still have a lot of leverage on them to deliver the correct article.

As Richard said, DO NOT accept it...it was WRONG! If it was a mistake by the Manufacturer, they can send it back, if it was a mistake by the DME, the DME must eat the cost...Nonetheless, they need to get the RIGHT chair from Colours. Colours is located in Calif, so it shouldn't take TOO long to get it right for you...

As far as the wheels being scratched, ensure that they are indeed NEW wheels, not demos of the wheels that the DME had laying around in their shop. Some DME's will have items such as seats/backs/wheels sitting around until someone orders them and then sell them. They can get scratched up this way. Either way, since they are scratched up, you can send them back as well...

No, you are not being unreasonable. There are at least 2 reasons why you should not accept a chair that is not what you ordered. 1. You are paying a pretty price for that chair and you should get what you paid for.
2. Like you said, that chair is going to be Mike's legs. My insurance will only buy me a chair every 5 yrs. That is a long time to be stuck with something you didn't order 100%.
If he can wait for the new one, I would definitely wait for it. Maybe even ask them to expedite it since they screwed it up.

Mike

Nope, didn't accept it or the rims. It was the DME's fault. I guess things got lost in communication over the past 6 months but like I said before, he should have made 110% sure we wanted what he was ordering. I do't mean to be rude, but c'mon now, you should have seen the chair?!!? You guys would have laughed your asses off if you saw Mike in that chair, I mean, considering his level of injury and all.

I guess it is sort of good that he (hte guy that ordered it) isn't there anymore because he isn't there to argue the issue.

What if they say that they can cut the handles off and remove the arm rests and ti will be the same as if they ordered a new one? Is that true? Fior those of you with no arm rests, could you add them if you bought them or did you chair come arm-rest unaccesible ?....

The arm rest brackets bolt on, so they are easy to add/remove...that's one accessory that is an add-on...so is the seat-belt that you mentioned...that may be a "standard" option from Colours as my Spazz had one too...

As far as cutting off the backrest posts? NO WAY! Among other things, that will most likely void your frame warranty. Besides, did he specify a fixed height backrest or did he request adjustable height? If he wanted adjustable height, then the cut off handles are not an option b/c he'll need the back-rest canes to be adjustable and capped off properly. This is a "work-around" that they are trying to offer as a substitution to ordering the RIGHT chair and not having to fork out the $$ that it's going to cost THEM for THEIR mistake...don't let them screw you for their mistake, make them have it fixed correctly.

Chopper-

My roommate had a similar situation to Mike's. The guy that measured her for her chair insisted that she was to have a 15 inch depth. My roommate (who has been using a chair since she was 15) told him no...she needed a 17 inch depth. Well...the guy ordered a 15 inch and then left the company. When the chair came, she felt like she was falling out of the damn thing! She did not accept it and made them get her the correct chair.

Insist that the chair Mike wanted is the one that you should be receiving. There should be no way that you should accept a chair when in order to make it right, they would need to cut things off of it. A chair is just too important to screw with.

It sounds like the DME guys are being rude for even suggesting such a thing. Screw them, get what you ordered, not what's convenient for THEM. Some of the things that go on w/ DME's and manufacturers makes me wonder who are the ones who are really disabled.

We were supposed to meet with the managers today but MIke has the flu. Now they want to "reschedule". C'mon, it's simple. Order the same damn thing with no J back, no arm rests, and no handles!!! Tell me this, if we prolong this "meeting' will they get anxious or do they even care? I mean, will they want to hurry up and get the chair out of there and get Mike what he wants?

I know it sounds stupid but I am just so mad. Mike is mad too, but he is in a chair just like the one he wants so for now he is content. Mine as well beat this demo to the ground before breaking in the new one....

Invacare built my chair the wrong size, despite having the specs from the DME. We wouldn't have accepted it (actually, we never even saw it - the DME told us about it, and said he told Invacare they'd have to build another one the right size, which they did.)
