RIP Shirley McCluer, M.D.

This is from the ASIA website. For those who knew her, she was a wonderful physician who was especially interested in the health care needs of women with SCI.

Shirley McCluer, M.D.

Word has been received of the death of long-time ASIA member Shirley McCluer, M.D. of Little Rock, Arkansas on 12/3/06. Dr. McCluer, a well-respected physiatrist in the SCI field, was a regular attendee at ASIA meetings and an active participant in committee work within the organization, until her retirement from practice in 1998.
From the newsletter of the University of Arkansas School of Medicine:

Quote:
Shirley McCluer, M.D., a retired UAMS professor, died Dec. 3. Known for her caring nature, great energy, determination and dedication, Dr. McCluer was one of the founding faculty members of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (then a division). She was a
professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation from 1984 until she retired in 1991. Dr. McCluer became the first PM&R residency program director in 1987. Her area of expertise – and her passion – was the rehabilitation of persons with spinal cord injury and making life better for
all individuals with disabling conditions. Dr. McCluer served as medical director of the Arkansas State Spinal Cord Commission from 1985 to 1998. She had numerous accomplishments as an educator, administrator and clinician.
