catheters
Can inserting the high volume of catheters that SCI's must use into the male penis cause injury to the shaft? Are there any facts on this?

Define "high volume caths" please. I use a 14 fr. but have on occassion used 12 or even 10 fr but they take a long time to drain bladder. I've been cathing 10-15 times daily for 2 1/2 years and don't notice any problems. I guess if you are concerned you can always get a supra-pubic...i'm staying away from that and hoping to eventually get return of bladder...but who knows how long I'll have to wait.

I use the 14fr as well, but only use them every 4-6 hours per day. I just wanna know if using catheter causes damage to the tissue inside the penis...I'm hoping to get sensation there too..I just don't want it to hurt like hell when I do.

If catheterizations are done correctly, with sufficient lubricant, and without forcing the catheter (traumatic catheterization) there should be no damage. Forcing the catheter can cause scarring, diverticuli and false passages in the urethra. Severe trauma can even damage the erectile function of the penis, but this is pretty rare.
