How to get in school
Hello everyone. My name is Louis Young and I'm a quad. I want to go back to school this Spring, but have had trouble figuring out how to do so. I've gone to many websites, but I just haven't found a website with concrete information. I know I could get help with tuition, books, computer and someone to help me around campus through the state. Plus, I'm trying to find the best software that is voiced-command so I don't have to type with my splint because my arm gets tired easily. I would appreciate it soooooooo much if someone could help me out with this. Thank you for your time.
Louis

I just am getting back to college, had 3 years already done before I became a quad. The only place I have found $ help was from Michgan Rehab Services. They are gov. office to transition back to work. In my case I had done alot of thinking about a plan that included college to become employable. That way when I met with MRS they didn't push me away from completing school inorder to get a job because I had a clear plan. I am sure your state has Rehad Services.

I agree, contact your state dept of rehab services. (Connecticut's has a web site, I assume California does as well) They should be able to give you some direction. Based on google I think this is the site:
http://www.rehab.cahwnet.gov/default.htm but others will probably have more info as well.

Make an appointment with V/R. Either go to the school or send for the information while you await appt. or have counselor assistance in progress. Then figure out as best YOU can what you will need as far as services, equipment, etc. to do so AND ask your rehab. (OT/PT) to get you to demo. assistive equipment of what you already figure you need and a letter of recommendation plus the prescription for the equipment. This way you already have shown a good part of your iniative, desire and ability to do what it is you want to do. Apply on-line for fafsa, this will then give you and V/R figures needed for loans less their funding. The school's disability and V/R counselors should then work with you on the rest. My best to you!
