Push Rim
Hi, I wonder if anyone has peeled the vynil cover off their push rims and then sand blasted them for a little texture? I was thinking that it might just make a mess on your hands. Any info? Pat

I do know that underneath the vinyl is raw aluminum. It will turn your hands black just like the old storm windows of the 50's-60's
When you buy aluminum handrims, they're always anodized. "Brushed" finish stainless steel handrims used to be popular because they would not rust, were tough and the brushed finish was no slippery like the chrome plated ones. Now days, weight seems to be everything, so they are either anodized aluminum or titanium. I use both vinyl-coated and sparkle-foam coated handrims as a C-6, but I just know what is beneath the vinyl from experience. |

I've had my rims sandblasted.
Hey group!
I did just that! I had a pair of titanium hand rims from TiLite and requested TiLite to sandblast them because their rims are highly polished. TiLite sandblasted them but the grit was so fine I couldn’t tell if the rims were polished or blasted? I needed something with a little texture on it. I called several sandblasting places and one company did do it for me for $30.00 for the pair. The salesman brought out several different blasted machined parts made of titanium to compared the blasting grit. I have about 60 grit which works great! So if you want it done? Go to a place where they do sandblasting. For aluminum it may be too soft of a material. Whereas the titanium still holds up great after a long time. I did sand the rims down with a piece of sand paper once I got them back to get the rough edges and burs sanded down. If you do get your rims ‘blasted make sure you or they put a sheet metal screw in the holes otherwise you have sand beads in your rims. To get rid of that? Get a hot glue gun and squirt hot glue into the hole and move the rims around so the beads stick to the glue. It’s a good idea and works great! titanium4motion |
