Chimo porch lift?
I'm investigating lifts to use to get up to a 30" - 40" porch. I'm looking for simplicity and of course low cost. Does anyone use the porch lift manufactured by Chimo Lifts Inc. of British Columbia? What do you think of the unit? I can't find a website for Chimo, are they still in business? TIA - fw

No experience with that brand, but I have a Savaria Multilift that seems ok and has a nice simple worm shaft and nut design along with non-PLC (uses relay logic) electronics. You may find you want to simplify it a bit by modifying the switching a bit, way overengineered with all sorts of bizarre 'safety' switches that can strand you killing the power to the machine, easily bypassed though. It comes rated at 8 foot/minute, but easily modified with a $40.00 pulley change to 9.6 foot/minute. It probably would go faster (if you are using a manual chair and dont need all the weight rating), but standard industrial supply pullys are not available to make it go faster with the motor shaft size the lift comes with.

I found this with a Google search:
Chimo Lifts #108 1655 Broadway St Port Coquitlam, BC V3C 2M7 tel. 604 521-6044 or 6076 fax 604 521-6076 You might want to stick to a company that is closer though, as it might be difficult to get service for a lift made outside the USA. |

Thanks, folks. The Chimo design looks simple and foolproof, much less overbuilt than the usual side-tower designs. I don't know how reliable/safe it is, though, or if it's much less in cost. - fw
