everyother day bowel program question

They are trying to do my bowel program every other day in rehab. They tell me to take my stool softener, citrucel and stimulative laxative everyday....... I thought I should skip the stool softener and laxative on the off day. What do you think?

I do my bowel program every other day and I don't use laxatives, stool softeners, etc. I just drink water and ensure I get about 25grams of fiber per day and that does the trick. I do the digitial stimulation and it just pops right out. No problem. I wouldn't take a laxative everyday if I were you. I think your bowels would take control of themselves on your off day.

Binnie, I think if you're still in rehab and they're trying to get your bowels 'trained', you should probably stick to their 'formula'. Once you get home on your own, and see how your body is going to react, then you can play around with taking/not taking the medications.

Yeah, marmalady is probably right because you are still in rehab. I didn't experiment until I got home myself. Best to follow orders until you are back in the world, so to speak. At least they can clean you up in rehab should something go wrong.

Yes, I would stick with their daily regime during rehab. Once you settle into a pattern (and better still if you are still in rehab), ask them if you can adjust to every other day and see what happens under those controlled circumstances.

If you end up switched to every other day when at honme, I would keep the stool softener and citricul (fiber) every day and take the laxative and dig stim every other day. Thats just my opinion.
