Great post, Darty. Noticed that you're a complete quad. Are you using stim yourself and if so, how's your body responding to it and what kind of results can you share with us thus far?

Thanks for getting these diagrams.

Hi,

I am 26 years post and had been using estim way back in the begining of my injury with a huge machine (about the size of a microwave) called a myoflex machine. The pads were big and would soak in a pan of Epson salts and water (to help conduct the electricity) on a hotplate below the machine. I was getting responce from my abs and the machine would almost sit me up from laying flat on my mat table. I also had a brace made (so I would not hyperextend my knees) and would sit on the edge of my mat table with weights around my ankles and zap my quads to lift the weight. The machine was not very good for small muscles because the pads were to big, I remember it cost $1700.00 for the complete unit. I did this from 1980 till 1989 and was warned over and over by my Doctors about the negitive health effects of EMS, guess we were ahead of our time. I eventually threw that machine away and want to start doing it again. I am waiting for a much smaller estim unit to be delivered now, that Myoflex was like something out of Frankinstine.

That is the same unit I just got a couple weeks ago. I am having a bit of trouble finding the best settings because they are different then the one I used in rehab. I would love to know how you make out with yours. The company was great with customer service. I can get bicep, deltoid and abdominal contraction but not quads and I have yet to try other muscles.
They do appear to have good customer service, I ordered the unit on Sunday and got an email yesterday with a tracking number for 3 day delivery. As I stated in my post above, I got my quads to fire but that was many years ago and the machine I was using was very powerful (would burn me on occasion) so I don't know if they will fire again with this new machine but I will keep you posted.

To save the charts just click on them one at a time and the chart will open in a new browser window, hover over the picture with your mouse and RIGHT click your mouse to save the chart then do the next one. Also I used a free graphics program (Irfanview) to resize the image larger then I printed them. To find Irfanview just Google it.

I think they mean that the # 1 pads are attached to the same terminal on the stimulator, the #2 pads to the number 2 terminal and so on. So both 1's stimulate at the same time.

Well I got my Estim unit and it doesn't appear to be powerful enough to get my muscles to fire so I called them and they agreed to upgrade me to a larger more powerful unit which can run on a 9v battery or plug into the wall for house current. I also upgraded the pads to the largest ones they have to cover more skin space I believe they are 1.75" X 3" so we'll see how that works. I should have it in a few days and will report back..

Which E-Stim unit do you use? I have tried two differant ones with no luck I think I need a more powerful one. I E-Stimed years ago but that unit died anbd they don't sell it anymore.

darty,

I use a NMES EMPI Focus Unit, pretty pricey though but can be configured to just about anything you need! http://www.directdme.com/pposcripts/...roductid=16700
thats a website that shows it.

This will run on a 9v battery and can go up to 100 milliamperes which is never needed because its so strong. I usually keep it around 40-60
