Debicutii - Vegan vs High Protein

Watching symmetry's thread I wanted to start a discussion on how effective high protein is on healing pressure sores. A discussion, not an argument.

For the past 3 weeks, I've been addicted to fruit and/or juice and lots of water. (It's because of the Yasmin bc pill, with a diuretic in it). Since then, my feet and calves are not even close to half as swollen as they used to be. At the end of my 10hr work shift, it would be lugging 60lb sand bags into the car - well no more. I can't say it's improved my skin in general because of this psoriasis I'm now prone to .. but my wounds definitely look clean and the skin around healthy.

Before, I used to up my protein with steak or beef, beans or chicken. A good steak would make me feel good around that time of the month - but probably because of the border-line anemia I had from Endometriosis. I saw no improvements in my wounds though. I even tried that Myoplex protein drink and I just felt bloated after that.

I wonder about the rationale behind the high protein diet for healing wounds? I realize it's to help build tissue .. but I never saw any benefits.

David thinks I'm just going through a phase and that this too, shall pass. lol

Most women who crave chocolate during their period are actually craving the iron in chocolate because of the loss of blood. Eating red meat or something high in iron that's not chocolate will make you feel better because there's something in chocolate that actually makes you feel worse at that time of the month even though you're craving. Something to do with the different hormone levels and dopamine.

I notice when I drink more water my feet lose a lot of edema overnight- more so than when I don't.

Vegan diet reverses diabetes symptoms, study finds

Friday, July 28, 2006; Posted: 12:08 p.m. EDT (16:08 GMT)

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- People who ate a low-fat vegan diet, cutting out all meat and dairy, lowered their blood sugar more and lost more weight than people on a standard American Diabetes Association diet, researchers said this week.
They lowered their cholesterol more and ended up with better kidney function, according to the report published in Diabetes Care, a journal published by the American Diabetes Association.

.. this definately worked for my brother ..

Yes, I grimaced when I read KLD's post. It is a shame that most in the medical profession still believe this myth.
Yepper, protein doesn't CURE anything. This is another one of western medicines big fallacies. You can get all the protein you need from a plant based diet. High protein diets are harmful in MANY ways to the body. That's one the many reasons there is so much opsteoporosis in western diet-following peoples.
Tell a gorilla, a cow or an elephant that they need to eat more meat, lol.

A lifestyle change CURES diabetes(type2), high blood pressure and a whole host of other maladies. It's called getting to the root of the problem. Not masking the symptoms and living a compromised life of lesser quality. Check out some of the health education centers I have posted about before. They CURE people, many who have been sent home from hospitals and told there was nothing else that could be done for them. It is a lifestyle change, permanent, not a fad diet-like temporary thing. If you want to live healthy lives, check it out.
Like Daniel said to the steward set over them, test us for 10 days in this...read the first chapter again, see who fared better!
The government did a big study in the early 70's that proved a plant based diet was the healthy way to go and those who followed it lived 7-11 years longer, without most of the maladies that beset the rest of the population. BTW, they are doing that study again as we speak, Loma Linda University is heading it up for Uncle Sam. Which reminds me, I gotta fill mine out. Been putting it off, it takes about two hours, lol.
I'll stop here. Gotta go.
