ok....well, i think that his BP is safe from what i know and i even think his heart rate is ok...if anyone disagrees please inform me... (but dont take my word for it), but i know when Majed first started using the standing frame, he was getting light headed and we started putting his TED hose back on and once he got used to being elevated up like that again we graduated from the TED hose....slowly we began to slide his TED hose down his legs with each time of use!!!

good luck hun!!!

Seems like that would be a good thing... have a little cardio-vascular work out without breakin a sweat. SO long as its not all day.

ChopperChick,

Is his resting heart rate when he is sitting lower? Assuming that blood pressure was measured when he is standing, this suggests that he is not getting orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure due to standing up).

Normally, when able-bodied people stand up, their sympathetic system tells the veins of the legs to constrict. In people with spinal cord injury, however, the sympathetic response may be impaired and the blood pools in the legs. Because there is less blood available to the heart, it has to pump harder and faster to maintain blood pressure.

I agree with Majed that neither his heart rate nor blood pressure are worrisome and this is probably good for him.

It would be interesting to see if this gets better over time. It should. In most people, as they stand more, their sympathetic response recovers to some extent.

Wise.
