Hello all my fellow music lovers. I was out today thinking as Im working on some new material about" What I listen to" My range of music love is WIDE
bieng a musician my whole life (started performing at 6) and I own some things I dont see others write about so thought Id ask.I have sung and played (pinanist) and played some Drums jamming,Jazz, soul,Opera,Operaetta, musical theatre and danced in Civic light opera also , been to too many concerts to count, music IS my therapy and my career, over the many vast years and having lived and gone to school in Capitol Hill in Seattle washington (if your from there you KNOW in the 70s,early 80s that is one seriously artsy place, me and my roomates and our freinds used to JAM all the time BOY do I miss those days. So here are some things we used to play and listen too. Randy Crawford Marvin Gaye (saw him in concert it was cool) Donny Hathaway (ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORTIES!) Keith Jarrett Gato Barbiari (spelling stinks I think on that one) Weather Report (My FAVORITE FUSION GROUP) We had a guy in our sessions who lived down the street in apt near ours, he was about 17 living alone in apt, good looking kid long black hair and MAN could he play Weather Report his Bass was just such a talent. I played Keyboard (that was popular back then ).I had Long Dark very wild hair, I sure miss that, I wasnt a hippy gal just very hip!, funny thing was in school (college) I did all classical because it really is the best training one can have then you can play just about anything. My professor was a super cool guy looked like Elmer Fudd,ha,ha, he did Carnigie Hall concerts, he died of AIDS I remember reading about it on the Seattle Ferry on my way to practice an Operetta (was coluratura) with range up to G above high C, I lost ALL my highnotes after Anyerusm when they cut my Carotid Artery in my neck, plus losing half of Diaphragm didnt help , but the Music is still in my soul.share your music loves Id really enjoy hearing them and if any of you like some of what I listen to, By the way I still listen and play classical music. Peace Jo |

Hey there sorry had to go eat tv dinner (that means the mashed potatoes and stuffing
, followed by icecream later, then needed shower because I felt stinky. Nice music Joan Armatrading love the song "Warm Love", she has a nice deep range too, easy to listen to. do you remember Tracy Chapin? never hear about her anymore. I used to love Judy Collins in the 60s and 70s, saw her in concert in 70s with Al Jarreau great concert very laid back. I really like the group Maroon 5 as far as the lead having a distinct sounding voice. My husband likes all music too, we both love old Genesis, Pink Floyd, and I like Santana still that guy can play, of course I think even tony Bennet is great at his age to do what he does just makes me happy. I own a double CD pack of the RAT PACK, I just LOVE that stuff, puts me in a good mood.Awe I love to talk music theres nothing like it. hugs Jo |

i love music too! mom forced...lol me to play piano from age 6 until i hit high school...then gave me the option to quit. of course i took the latter of the 2...what a dummy i was. i still have a piano, and i can still hold a tune but boy i wish i had never quite.
any way...playing the piano and having a mom who loved music i ran the gamet when it came to my taste in music. she absolutely loved johnny mathis, ol' blue eyes, tony bennett, dionne warick and the list could go on and on. so i learned to appreciate all types of music. i guess it depends upon the mood i'm in as to the music that's played. one guy who's caught my ear is john mayer; he's great on guitar. i also like diana krall if i'm in the mood for jazz. my old favs r ... sanatana james taylor rush queen blue oyster cult moody blues |

Listening - mostly classical, but also I enjoy occasionally listening to old jazz, old a capella (ever hear the Comedian Harmonists from the '30s?), new a capella (Vocal Sampling, out of Cuba, are impressive), unusual (Three Leg Torso; old recordings of all sorts; some Indian music). I have a good appreciation of the Beatles; most modern rock (and certainly rap) leaves me cold.
Playing - my brass quintet plays everything from baroque to contemporary classical, rag, dixieland, Sousa, you name it, and we love it all. We're now working on some Hawaiian arrangements for a luau gig! I haven't played orchestral music (college/community orchestra) for several years due to lack of time; I played in the Portland Opera for a few of years around 1960, before it became full professional and I moved away. Jo, what operettas do you like? Gilbert & Sullivan have been a favorite of my family, from my grandparents, who performed in them a lot in the 1920s, through to at least one of our sons - he can sing most of his way through the Mikado, Pirates, or Pinafore. I have great memories of playing 2nd horn in a long string of performances of the Merry Widow in 1962, with my teacher of the time on first. - Richard |

Tracy Chapman? Love her. Great voice.
Lisa Loeb. Ditto. Katie Meluah. Good jazzy singer. Mindy Smith. Good folksy singer. Natalie Merchant. Awesome. Sixpence None the Richer. Hypnotizing. Crash Test Dummies. Guy has a ... unique ... voice. Goo Goo Dolls. Nice and raspy. Tom Petty. How could you not? Dave Matthews. Good mellow music. Jack Johnson. Great stuff. Wallflowers.
