Mitro Revision - what to expect?
Well the Uro couldn't even get the cystoscope through my Mitro this morning so I am scheduled for a revision next Tuesday. Apparently its just day surgery. What should I expect? Will there be a big cut? He said I'd have an indwelling for a week after surgery.
I wish my Uro didn't run in and out so fast before I can think of questions. |

Hey Emi
It's not a big deal at all, especially since you been through the mitro surgery. In and out in less than a day...none of that surgery prep. You'll be fine

Hi,
Mitro revision can become necessary when caths or a cystoscopy cnnot be achieved through the stoma. Revision is an outpatient procedure to remove the tissue causing the stricture. Strictures can be caused by overgrowth of scar tissue from the healing, or from trauma with rough catheterization. Dilation may temporarily improve this, but if periodically repeated, mitro revision is usually suggested. As you said, an indwelling catheter is usually equired for 1-2 weeks. AAD |

I had a revision on mine. I could still cath through it. the stoma was kinda hemorrhaging(best word I can think to describe). he said possibly caused by friction. it's fixed now. in and out. no hospital stay.

to tell you the truth, I don't remember an incision. I've slept since then though.
). I did have an indwelling through the stoma that I had to keep in for about a week. I really don't think mine called for an incision. Think he just went in there and cleaned things up by doing some snipping of the tissue. I know that doesn't help you much. I'm sorry. my memory sucks.

Wow all this talk makes me nervous about my mitro going wrong. KLD, has scared me into using lube more often even though I don't usually.
Emi when are you having it done? I would chase the uro down and ask him the questions anyway. Do you write down the ones you have before going to see him. I know sometimes that helps me with the knew questions I get after we start talking.

My incision was about an inch, but has healed up really well.
Aly, I never use lube. Still don't. Just makes it too slippery to cath and is an added inconvenience. I think the problem w/ mine was using a catheter that was too small so the stoma wanted to close. It didn't heal properly from the beginning. I stick to 14fr. nowadays and have no problems. The only thing that drives me crazy is that I get really bad spasms when I initially cath. Does this happen to anyone else? I'm guessing it's because it probably hurts sticking a tube in my tummy. |

I had the revision today, all went fine except my blood pressure refused to come back up for hours so I had a longer stay than is typical. Will see if it is sucessful next week when the foley comes out of my mitro. Only a small cut around my mitro and a few stiches holding it together. Dr. prescribed a steroid cream to try and prevent it from healing too fast like it did last time.
