New Member (My Intro)
Well not really a new member but this is my first post. I consider myself one of the lucky ones. I was in a jeep roll-over accident on Oct 4th 1992 and suffered a compressed burst fracture of T-11 T-12 and L-1 while in Avalon NJ. Funny thing is I was the ONLY one of 3 of us wearing my seatbelt and I was the only one injured. I was Penn Stared (helicopter) to U of Penn and had a laminectomy done and Harrington Rods put in. I had no sensation and little movement below the injury and they told me I would never walk again. After a few weeks there, I was off to Magee rehab in Philly to start to put my life back together. I started therapy using what the doctors at Penn had said to me as motivation. I slowly started to gain function back and forced myself to rehab harder and harder every day. While I was there a massive infection spread through my incision and about 3 weeks later I ended up back at U of Penn to have the infection cleaned up and they actually removed my rods (still have them somewhere in my closet). I decided to stay at Penn and finish my rehabbing. Little by little I started doing things on my own and stopped using the chair about 3 months into it. When I started walking around with a walker I had to try and get rid of that also so they gave me a cain. Towards the end of the rehab I was able to walk long distances with little problem and ended up ditching the cain the first day I got home. They were so impressed with my recovery that the Docs did a presentation on me to the entire medical staff at Penn.
Fast forward to today and I dont use anything to help me walk. I walk with a limp but pretty well. My sensation in my lower body is about 60% of pre SCI. I have full sexual function including ejaculation (the feeling around my penis is not very good though) I dont take any meds at all but I do have b&b problems associated with SCI and obviously they are a bitch to deal with. From what I have been reading since I joined Im very impressed with all of you esp the women I really wish I came across this website years ago.

Welcome to CC Scott....and yep you are sooo very lucky.
I'm just a burst L#1 with a birdcage (no rods ever) and it will be 2 years post come May 20th. I limp just alittle, use a cane for balance to walk as my nerves to my feet/toes are toast. Proving once again we're all just like Snowflakes...with everyone having alittle different outcomes. I'm so happy you did so well with your recovery...gives one hope for sure! I'm off to exercise, Queen
