Boiling rear end

My neuropathic pain in my behind and hips is really affecting the amount of time I can spend in the chair. No medication helps.
Also, my hip joints are so rigid that getting them to bend to sit requires hydraulic machinery.
I am T11-T12 incomplete.
Can things get better? To have the pain just where you need to sit is a cruel joke.
Do incompletes also have this pain?
Any advice?

HI,

I would suggest you seek a pain specialist that may help you with alternative ways to relieve pain such as TENS unit, biofeedback, etc.
depending on your level of injury and sensation.
Also, it may be that you need to try other medications for neuropathic pain including gabapentin, tegretol or possibly stronger medication to get relief.

I would also encouragea you to be involved in a physical therapy program of some kind to keep your ROM up as much as you can.
Others who are in a similar situation may have ideas as well.

The nurse's reply about range of motion exercises is right on. I have a routine of them that keep my hips mobile, and if I miss them for a few days they get really tight. But you probably shouldn't jump right in with them without a PT getting involved. Good luck with the pain. I just started on lyrica 2 weeks ago for similar issues. I think it is helping based on the fact that I am taking far fewer percocets, but the pain is still there.

Don't ignore a possible organic cause for your pain. I have similar discomfort all the time, but it was at its worst when I had a bleeding internal hemorrhoid. If it is due to neurogenic pain, then it's a matter of experimenting with the various pain meds. I have found that if I can control the pain at bedtime and sleep well, I can usually tolerate the pain during the day when I am pre-occupied with other activities.

pain

Sorry to read about your discomfort. My pain doctor worked with me and I found through experimenting that effexor and a little clonadine in my pump brought the pain level down without appreciable side effcts. However, two weeks needs to be given before eveluating differences. Pat

I am also t-11,12 and I get neuropathic pain in the same place (and in my toes)That is my biggest complaint besides trouble and confusion w/ bowel program. I was on gabapentin and just switched to lyrica and it is helping more. I still get pain but its not as intense.

It seems like it gets worse when I have a more intrusive bowel program and especially if there is any bleeding. It also is much worse when I have a UTI or other pain that I can't "feel". Also i seems like if I have a lot of pressure like gas or stool; but sometimes not. I've tried to find patterns for 2 yrs and still get confused. Usually lying on my stomach helps.

Its like a burning on my skin and in my bones, but its so weird that I feel that , but can't feel any normal sensation in the whole buns area.

I am a T12 incomp, I have tried a few thing's like getting a coccynx cushion "hope I spelled that right" and I also had a handicapped enlongated stool put in. It helps because you can sit on the front of it and not put any pressure on the tailbone area. the cushion really helps too! anytime I sit down I use them, have for aver 3 yr's now. the only type of Pm I'm on is a Duragesic 50 Mcg patch

by THC, you mean delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, the active chemical in marijuana (pot, herb, mary-jane, green, wacky-tobaccy ganja, hash, mota). I think it's illegal in most parts of the United States.
