years ago before I changed my diet, I had to remove and 'grind' my catheter daily to bust up and remove the blockage. It was crystalline inside and around the balloon(foley). FINALLY got to a urologist and he removed 25 or more considerable sized stones from my bladder. One day when I was milking it to try and get it unblocked so I could get out of bed without my bladder 'bursting' I finally gave up as it had collapsed from the vacuum. I went to the bathroom sink and removed it... there was a pencil eraser sized stone vacuum sealed to the hole in the end, the other hole was just stopped up.
BLEW MY MIND!
Anyway, I kept a uti for those first two years, pretty much. I would carry a new foley and an intermittent cath with me wherever I went. So I could fix it in an emergency. I had not changed my diet nor had I quit drinking. I didn't drink a lot of pure water, mostly coffee and alcoholic beverages. And a LOT of both.
I KNEW better, but eventually I changed and became a veegan, gave up the drinking and started drinking lots of water and REAL fruit juice occasionaly. The diet change COMPLETELY reversed all my health issues within a couple of months. Skin breakdown is no longer a worry, no uti's as long as I stay away from sweets including anything with white sugar in it, softdrinks ESPECIALLY.
After he got rid of the stones, I've never has 'crystallization' or stop ups of any kind. My case was extreme, DAILY stoppages, but no mas.
Been a veegan since 98.

You should be checked for a UTI and also stones. In the mean time, routine irrigations with normal saline may prolong the length of time a catheter lasts.
