tubes
Kinda a dumb question, but better to know now than when I'm desperate...
I'm running Spinergy Everydays (24") w/ 1" Primos. This is an upgrade from my Sun rims with the standard pneumatics. I was at the sports store tonight, and decided to buy a few tubes. All the 24" tubes listed a 1.75" tire as the smallest they could accomidate. So... can I still use a tube like that? Or do I need a tube that's smaller in diameter? Thanks much! Nicki |

I had my local bike shop order tubes for me. 1.75 is a little big. Mine are 1-1.25"

i may be wrong, but i'm pretty sure a 24" bike tire is actually a smaller diameter than 24" wheelchair tire. so aside from being too thick a diameter crossways i think that tube will be too small in the other dimension. make sense? i do know that a tube listed in a bike shop as a 26 x 1.0 is actually the same size as a 25 x 1 wheelchair tube. there are about 3 or 4 tire sizing codes and it gets confusing. your best bet is to try and use the dimension listed on the tire as 23-559 (for 25 x 1) or 23-540 (for 24 x 1) etc. that second number is the diameter (in mm) of the rim. the 26 x 1.0 listed on the bike tube is because they measure bike tires by the diameter of the wheel with a tire intalled. that was probably overkill, but i'd stick to ordering tubes from wheelchair part suppliers.

No, Joey that makes perfect sense. On my previous rim/tire combo, 24" tubes off the rack at the bike shop fit fine. But I'm sure it's different for this set up. Thanks guys!!

I double-checked my tubes for ya, Jenn...
my 25" rims have 25x1" tires and are using 25x1-1.25" tubes my 24" rims have 24x2" tires and are using 24x1.75-2.25" tubes

For tires n tubes, I always use the local bike shop. The price to me is typically cheaper than purchasing from a medical supply store.
Besides, then I get to gawk at all the nifty stuff they have. I have my pump that clips onto my frame. My tire patch kit is up to date. I make sure to look around for nifty bike accessories that I could possibly use. |
