Hi Shweta
How are you doing. There is already a new topic opened on this, Dr. Alok Sharma's therapy. As per I know Dr. Young was quite impressed with Dr. Sharma, he personally knows him and also Dr. Sharma knows Dr. Young as well. Perhaps Dr. Sharma is going to start Autologus Stem Cell Transplant at Wockhardt, Mumabai from this May, you can also mail him at alok276@gmail.com.

Take Care

With Best wishes

Stem Cell - Dr Alok Sharma

I think this Bone marrow stem cell treatment helps to a certain extent when administered within a short span of the injury..like a couple of months...the sooner, the better...It probably assists the body to heal itself to a certain degree. And as it is relatively safe compared to the other type of Stem Cell treatments, So it is worth a shot for any one whose injury is of recent period. So whether it is Dr Alok Sharma at Sion Hospital in Mumbai or Life Line Hospital in Chennai, One should definetely try it along with the regular Spinal Surgery and Physiotherepy.

As for cancer and Side effects, One can not be sure for the next 10 / 15 yrs till a comprehensive Research is completed in this area which i think has already started in many Medical institutions all over the World(India Included).

So for most of us, it is basically a choice that we ourselves have to make if we want to take the plunge or wait for some more years. As i myself will complete 4 yrs of my Injury shortly, I really have not been able to decide yet even after visiting Dr Geeta Shroff last Yr in feb & reading most of the material available.

But my suggestion to any one whose injury is relatively new is to DEFINETELY TRY the Bone Marrow Stem cell Treatment in any decent medical Institution which is offering it. You should surely give yourself a chance for recovery which is otherwise very slim on its own. But I am hopeful and I am sure something will come up..if not now..then after a couple of years....One Just have to wait patiently...

3 months after the stem cell therapy

3 months are completed on teh 20th may 2007, I went forthe autologus stem cell therapy at lifeline hospital chennai details are on http://birjupatel.blogspot.com

please respond to this to my group, so we are jsut focused on this topic for now and no further confusion

Changes.

1. My lower body stays warm, before that my left leg used to remain cold

2. I feel that the capacity of my bladder has increased, I havent done any test yet, but I can tell that more urine is collected in the bladder.

3. I am able to move my dorsal lateral muscle on the right side, i think thats what its called, it in the back side, a little above teh waist.

4. Bowel changes cant be noticed, infact i have had more constipation after the procedure.

5. spasticity has increased, that might be due to new path connections constipation, urine infection or the weather change

6. My upper body strenght and stamina has increase, this can be due to therapy and increase in weight lifting

7. SOmetimes I get severe back aches in the lower back and tail bone

8. After passing stool, i feel that everything is getting pulled, pain in anas, testicle and stomach is there.

Conclusion, as of now I have not noticed a major difference in these 3 months. ALl the changes can be because to the stem cell therapy or physio therapy. As for motor fuction, i can say that since past 2 weeks i have been able to move that muscle that i mentioned earlier.
Maybe this is the start, who knows, lets all be positive and wish for the best.

Please observe best.bcos exercise also plays imp part. If you get improvement in terms of motor power, then its sure cos of therapy. Best Luck..
