Sue, spad - I know, sad state for the Broncos. Plus I can watch while online.

Rehab, Carrie - interesting. Yes, I totally understand.
Given that me, Sue, spad - all over 42 - responded the same I wonder if being older (age) has anything to do with the answer.. Basically, the older you get the less you care and therefore substace takes precedence no matter the situation.

LaMem - sorry, not sure of your chronological age so didn't want to assume. Although, given your wisdom and life experiences I'm guessing over 30?

I've accepted the fact that I have no style... substance it is!

I'm ALL about substance and I really don't care how stupid I look when trying new things. I'll try anything once as long as it's generally safe and nothing ICKY food related. If they want me to try some new food and most likely KNOW I won't like it, they better be prepared for me to spit it out right in front of them ALL CHEWED UP!

I've dropped things on the floor and gone to pick them up to only come up to get my hair caught in my brakes or dropped more things...then I start to swear like a sailor, etc.

I'm very stubborn and like to do things MY way. I do appreciate help when it's offered, but if I can do it...I'll just say no thanks.

It may take me a little longer to do something, but I'll get it done.

I'm 44 ... no need to apologize for assuming I'm over 30. LOL I've earned every year and definitely enjoy the ride.

Kristi - I'm guessing Fear Factor isn't one of your favorite shows lol?
I knew it, you're all about passion and getting whatever is you're doing, done. Awesome!

Btw, hope your boyfriend's worthy.

Anyone who has seen me eating corn on the cob, or seen me after I've been eating on the cob, knows my stance on this issue.

Nope...Fear Factor is NOT one of my favorite shows. Those people have to be INSANE to eat/drink that shit! YUCK! If I could walk you would never see me on Survivor or anything like that. Terrified of bugs and anything creepy crawly and I don't eat fish. I'm a strong girl, but I would be saying get me the hell off this island NOW!

I try to be pretty passionate on what I do...if not...get down right bitchy when it doesn't work...LOL!

I have two ADA Complaints going right now and they have been going on for about a year and a half, but I'm not quiting until the papers are filed that say they are done. It's a slow process, but by sticking it out I think they are both going to come out in my favor. When they do...I can finally talk about em!

He's pretty worthy...I'll let him know if he messes up.

For me, its all about substance. I could care less how I look doing something versus actually getting it done. I've given up enough already so anything that I can accomplish, pretty or ugly in its method, is one more thing to add to the "yes, I can" list.

How about you?
I have yet to read the rest of the thread and "jumped the gun" because I think your question is most provocative and IMPORTANT.

I spent three (3) months in the hospital before they could find me a spot at the rehab centre and while there I was assigned this Irish PT, Fidelma -- I will never forget her.

She was teaching me how to raise myself to a sitting position from a lying down position. She demonstrated to me how by edging my elbows behind my back I would eventually get to the point where I could lift myself the rest of the way.
It turns out I just couldn't get my elbows tucked in deep enough and found that if held on to the edge of the padded frame where I carried out these exercises, I could get up.
I felt very embarrassed that I couldn't do it the way she suggested (I thought that was the "right" way of doing it) and told her I was "cheating" by doing it differently. She smiled and told me "all I wanted was for you to sit, I don't care HOW you achieve it as long as you do, and BTW, neither should you -- Congrats, you DID it!"

Cheers!

I have to chime in substance as well as go Steelers There is a celebration going on here led by a 13 year old!

My new attitude is that you don't know what life is going to throw you so give it a shot. NYC Marathon last year and ski lessons in a month. Never skiied while able baodied, but hell, it is never to late.

RR, after awhile you will get used to the spilled coffee. I simply don't care anymore. Too much of a caffeine junkie.

I don't know Rusty, I have a picture of you framed on my wall and you don't have any food in that beard at all.....I am all for substance, at the bare bones of things....like...a lady like Anty, who left a message on my cell phone today while I was laying on the table in PT having a nerve yanked on half way to weeping, but I can walk,,,but..Anty is calling me...to check up on ME. Thats substance. The heart of the matter. Hold one another up. So, Rusty, if I ever get to the deep south and stroll into your house, you better be ready to share the ribs, and wipe your mouth off with your sleeve....
