No, I don't have this at all. When I got startled, it's the same as when AB: I jump and my heart races for a bit.

dejerine - interesting post, what I could understand of it (my fault, not yours, BTW )

I too have (painless) shock feelings in my legs most of the time. I'd say I get 6 a minute. I hate it. It seems worse in bed (possibly because I'm less distracted from it then)
I've had the shocks ever since injury. Lying in hospital those first few days, I thought the shocks were my feet moving because of the inflating/deflating mattress I was on. Later I realised this was not so.

The buzzing/tingling has also been there from time of injury. This is constant and very uncomfortable. When I mentioned it to my consultant, in the hopes of it being a good sign, he told me not to place any importance on it; unfortunately he was right.

Todd - is yours an incomplete injury?

Yes, it is. My spinal cord was compressed by bone for several months but not severed.

This is all very interesting. I get that tingling/burning feeling, it tends to build up then the shooting pain comes through and hurts but it kind of resets the tingling/burining sensation. So I actually welcome them. I feel off balance when one foot does it and the other doesn't. They tend to run from my feet up my legs. Nothing moves with the shooting pain but one time it did it so hard in my foot I had to take my sock off and check it. I was sure that every blood vessel in my foot had burst.

What about phantom movement. Does anyone have this feeling? I feel like I can spread my toes apart on the inside, but nothing moves on the outside. Sometime I feel I can move my foot or thighs in slow mo' like the bionic man but on the outside there is no movement.

Also movement. When I am sleeping with someone if they move. I spasm. It has gotton better now that my stomach muscles and back muscles are controllable but prior to that it was like someone hit me with the EKG paddles as my back spasmed and sent me to the ceiling. Now I will get what I call a corsette squeeze as the stomach/back muscles contract. For awhile I thought I would have to start sleeping alone.

Also what happens when you watch a thriller movie. Do you still get that weird tense feeling in your stomach?

I would really like to know if anyone who always has these wild feels have had them shut down. I have had everything shut down maybe 5 times. The first time was right after I came home. I woke up and nothing tingled, burned, shocked, hurt nothing. I gave a sigh of relief and thought this had all been a bad dream then when I tried to get up like normal everything kicked in. Since then when I have had the other 4 - I remain completely calm and enjoy the moment.

I like spider girl's idea. Maybe we just all need to be rebooted - where's the switch.

I totally get that too. I think I can move my foot, so I try and it just
tingles where I am trying to move, but no actual movement. It's weird
because if I itch my stomach above the injury, (T10) it tingles all the
way down to my inner thigh. Wild what nerves do.

oh.... I almost forgot. Thanks for reminding me Nasty. When I rub my arm upper arm I feel like a light touch on my thigh (same side left or right) lower arm my calf, top of my hand my ankle. How weird.

My cord wasn't severed either; it was compressed by a blood clot, but it was severe enough to produce a complete injury.

Feelings_NothingMore - yes, I have had the feeling that I was moving toes...but they weren't moving at all.

With the shocks in my legs, when they come it is always one leg, then the other follows. I feel unnerved if there is a longer than usual pause between legs.

That's an interesting question as to what people feel when watching a thriller movie.
Personally, I don't get any feelings in my stomach anymore - no butterflies, no nothing. I miss this a lot.
I also miss not getting the grumbling belly when one needs to eat, then the satisfied full-belly feeling when you have eaten.

I experience phantom movement at times. I can tell my brain to move my left leg and I can feel a slight pressure in my leg but it doesn't move at all.

Karen - I totally know what you mean. I don't get hungry like I used to when I was AB. Sometimes this causes my blood sugar to drop so low that I begin sweating and having severe hunger pains because I waited too long before I eat.

Darn phantom movement. It always gives me hope I'm moving. Maybe if we keep trying we will. I also get tingles down my leg when I rub the small of my back. I'm T12 complete. I was hoping it was the nerves trying to connect.

That's not terribly odd ... one of my dad's friends who studied chinese medicine was telling me that if I couldn't massage my feet, I should massage my hands. Something about connected pressure points.

Seriously, though, when I was in acute rehab, when someone felt my ankles, I'd feel it in my foot/toes.
