Liz, what are you asking?
Any Word document (.doc) can be shared between mac & PC versions of Word, as well as between other programs, e.g. Appleworks (old), OpenOffice/NeoOffice/etc, Apple Pages, etc. |

What application are you trying to use to open it on the Apple?

By AppleWorks.
I have a Microsoft Word document that I want to work on on my Apple Computer. That I need to bring that document to a Microsoft computer and open it up on my computer in the other building. I guess I will have to ask Santa Claus for the word program for Apple for Christmas as it is over $200. |

hmm... AppleWorks should be able to open it, but the program is antiquated & may be having some conversion issues if your document has anything beyond normal text.
Try downloading a copy of NeoOffice. It's the OS X version of the *free* OpenOffice project; it works pretty well. I have it on one of my macs. See: http://www.neooffice.org/ |

You can use TextEdit (included in OS X) to open, edit and create Word documents on a Mac without additional software. It may not leave the formating as in Word, but you will be able to get the text.
Otherwise you have to purchase additional software such as Microsoft Office for Mac. Often if I just need the text at home (I use Windows at work and a Mac at home) I just copy the text and e-mail it to myself, then recopy it into AppleWorks (the Mac WP program) or the reverse if I need something at work that I have at home. Also, if you get a Word attachment on an e-mail, you can still forward it, so I will forward it to myself at work and open it there. This may work if you have a friend with a Windows computer. AppleWorks can open it - depending on the version you have.
I have AW6 and Microsoft Office X. If you need help, u can email it to me and I will open it and convert it to AW for you. J
