pharamacy being out of oxycodone

you ever were of a big pharmacy like CVS being out of a staple of pain med like oxycodone? i go to the same pharmacy every month, yesterday they were out of oxycodone, they said they wont get it in till Friday. 4 more days?
anyone ever run into anything like this.. i have extras, so no problem with that, but what if i didnt? i asked why such a staple that i get filled every month would not be available, they blamed it on thanksgiving. i enquired they are a full week behind in meds due to thanksgiving? doesnt make sense to me,
i wrote a email to the cvs customer service since i find this unacceptable.
they thought they were out of all my scripts due to thanksgiving ,one is lyrica which i am not supposed to stop abruptly.
i am going to change pharmacys due to this. luckily i have the option of doing so

I'd say it's definitely time for a letter to the corporate office, with a "gentle" reminder of HIPAA privacy requirements. And of course mention the need for consistent pain med supply.

That was a HUGE HIPAA infraction. OMG. Break out the imaginary lawyer and go extremely high up in that organization, metro. That was just WRONG.

well the timing was right , i had contacted the main office with my complaint about the oxycodone , and the pharmacist flippant response that i would have to wait 5 days due to the holidays delivary being backed up from the week before , which i knew was bs,. the corporate office called me today and inquired whether the pharmacy had offered to try and get the oxycodone from their other stores , they hadnt , they were like too bad come back in five days. i also got the feeling that she equated me as a was a narc seeker. As a chronic pain patient that answer didnt seem professional to me. it turns out that it should only be 2 days before they get it in, that is what i had been used to to over the years for any medication they were out of. i guess the pharmacist who had the authority to order that class of meds was on vacation and they neglected to get someone to back fill.
than when i mentioned the cialis incident that happened yesterday that was the icing on the cake, they took that very serious , they said both problems will never happen again as of today

Sounds great! Someone needs to start knocking a few heads over this stuff. At least the home office has their heads on straight. Abandoning the store wouldn't hurt the offending party at all, but it sounds like going over their heads is gonna bring the hurt right to them where it belongs.

Since CVS is trying to buy out every other pharmacy in the country it's hard to find another one. The last time I tried to get a prescription for Cipro XR filled they were out of them. It took me a day to get it filled. This was after a 5 day game of phone tag between the pharmacy, my urologist and myself. So they had plenty of heads up about what drug I needed.

But that's not why I'm writing. CVS just started running a series of commercials here in Florida. God, I hate the bullshit they spew. There's a young, smiling, pretty female pharmacist talking about an elderly lady customer who came into her store with a bag full of old prescriptions and they sat down together and figured out what she needed and what she didn't. I imagine this would take half an hour or whatever if they had to go through each prescription and bring it up on the computer by date and doctor etc. As though the pharmacist is going to take that amount of time with a customer and still be smiling. I DON'T THINK SO! I know when I call there I first get the damn answering machine. When I finally get to talk to a "real" person I get this feeling that they just want to rush me off the phone and get back to work taking their small multi-colored and odd-shaped pills outta those big bottles and pouring them into the little bottles and ringing it up on the cash register and swiping your card. And between each sentence you get put on hold so they can make another sale or fill another little bottle. Production and sales. Sell, sell, sell. I can't really blame the pharmacist because they're probably pushed to their limit by being understaffed so that corporate CVS can post more quarterly profit.

When these big national or multi-national corporations, using modern Madison Avenue advertising techniques, try to come across as though they're a friendly small town Norman Rockwell-like pharmacy of the 50s it makes me sick. Get real. It's all about cornering market share and the money. Cha-ching. Sheeeesh....

You are so very right , I used to work at CVS up until I
burst my L#1. Even if you do things right, store looks great, customers are happy, the tills is correct, you just don't get any "atta boys" from the Management.

Their Management style is sorely lacking for sure.

We used to have a Pharmacist just like that,,,,but he got fired!
All and all our store got few complaints otherwise we'd hear about
it from the Manager.

i also think it has something to do with the neighborhood this store was in, they have a large Hispanic customer base and the other local pharmacy closed(criminal activity), no competition now. i betcha when i go over to the more affluent neighborhoods the service will be much better as the people in those neighborhoods will not tolerate this kind of stuff.

Yep, that has a lot to do with it...my CVS was located in a small, really
small little burg outside Indianapolis. Everyone knows everyone!

Pharmarcists are underpaid, overworked and that commercial showing
her leisurely sitting there to be of assistance to a customer...what a
hoot!
