Dr. Carlos Lima Speaking in Detroit
Dr. Carlos Lima will be coming to the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan (RIM) November 29, 2005 from 11:30-1:00 p.m. to share the results of his promising stem cell transplant surgery for persons with spinal cord injuries.
A neurologist at the Egas Miniz Hospital in Lisbon, Portugal, Dr. Lima has performed his experimental stem cell operation on more than 70 patients worldwide. The procedure involves olfactory ensheathing glia (OEG) cells, extracted from the patient's nose and injected into the spinal cord at the site of injury.
