UTI, sugar and Levaquin

So I got my first uti in like 8 years and it sucks big time. I have a few questions.............Does eating alot of candy cause a uti? I normally don't eat much but for the past couple weeks I have ate 3 lil bags a day from the vending machine at work.

I went to hospital last night and they said the uti prolly was brewing for two weeks, I have felt kinda shitty for that past couple weeks..

And lastly, has anybody taken Levaquin for a uti? It doesnt seem to work as good as the last uti drug I took before.

Jack

hey Jack! Hows it going? Levaquin did nothing but give me headaches when I took it. I always get Cipro. And yes, sugar intake has an effect on your bladder. I have became aware of this and to prevent a uti after a birthday party or other occasion I make sure to drink lots of water.

Rember Jack, Your Working Now So Your Probably Not Taking In As Much Water. Try Getting Up Early And Chugging 36 Ozs Before Work. And Like Pat Said, Cipro Is Best In My Little Experience W/ Uti's

Levaquin is a broad spectrum antibiotic in the same family as Cipro. They are floroquinolines. It takes 3 days or so to start feeling the effects. If you don't feel better after taking it for 5 days call your doc back. You may have a stone causing the UTI. Oh, and both Levaquin and Cipro need to be taken with a full glass of water because they can crystallize in the kidneys otherwise. And no calcium products or zince 2 hours before or after taking it. They did do a culture right?

SUGAR depresses the immune response in the body. Won't go into the details, you can look that up yourself. But suffice to say that our massive intake of sugar has a lot do do with our sickness now and disease later in life. We run around full time with depressed immune system and wonder why there is so much sickness.
Take a proactive response to your lifestyle and live a better quality of life.
If you have a sweet tooth, take fresh fruits with ya to munch on, it will take a bit of getting used to the less than sugary taste of them. But your health will improve in many facets.
And like Fuentes says, get back to water, if your urine has much color...you AIN'T drinking enough of it.

I swear by Levaquin, but I think it depends on your body with how it works. For me I can't take Cipro it makes me all loopy even at one time I went to the emergency room because I was non responsive which was caused by Cipro interacting with one of my other meds.
Patrick,
I didn't know that candy could cause you to have problems that would turn into a UTI. This could explain why I have had so many recurrent UTI's. I love my sweets I guess I'm going to have to keep a really close eye on that from now on.

Hey Patrick, how ya been?
Thanks guys for all the info, I second the motion for lavaquin causing headaches, I NEVER get them but got one now that won't go away since I started taking lavaqui.

I asked a buddy if he ever took levaquin and he said yea, so I asked how long till he felt better and he said as soon as he quit taking it.

The reason I asked about eating candy is because at the time of my last uti it was xmas time and I was eating alot of it.

They did do a culture but al they told me was that it was a BAD uti.

Jack

Interesting personal stories on the quinolone set of drugs (cipro, levaquin):

It worked awesome for me but now I seem to have developed an allergy to it. Skin rash every where which has led to skin breakdown. The only reason I discovered this was because I didn't take any pills while on vacation last week. Saw two doctors who said I just had folliculitis. I'm itchy as all heck!

Hi Jack.
I posted the following message last May:
Chaz,
I noticed in your first message that you asked about reducing sugar in your diet. Although no one else here has addressed it, I think you asked an important question. Sugar can often spill over into the bladder, increasing the risk of uti. I cut out just about all sugar from my diet, including white flour (eliminating all wheat for a while is a good idea, too). This helps our bodies become less acidic and more alkaline (search the internet and you'll see why this is so beneficial; not just fewer uti's). I've also just learned about a nutritional supplement called Ambrotose. It's in articles all over the internet, but I've found glycoscience.com most helpful. I've heard amazing results. I'll let you know about my experience. One more thing that's very important - drink lots of water. Good Luck. God Bless.
