Levo (or other brand) manual standing chairs
What are the pros and cons of the manual standing wheelchairs? I trust those of you who have tried or owned them, rather than the maker.

A major drawback is that they are quite heavy. If you really need one for your work, etc. you could use it there, but I would not plan to use one for regular community mobility until you really want to trash your shoulders.

Mine rolls quite easily. It's the manual standup chair from The Standing Company in Bridgeport, MI. You have to keep the air pressure up in the tires, and it's not as maneuverable as my Quickie, but that's not the intent of the chair. It's also great for the bowel program. I can go on my own quite often now.
It's also great to be able to get things out of the cupboards or off the top shelf at the store. I can also stand up and look at engines again when I go to car shows. I got a J2 back on it and a Tempermedic cushion. This makes it real comfortable for my 6'3" frame. The only drawback is that I can't get it in and out of the car by myself, and it's pretty heavy. Mine folds and fits right in the trunk of my Monte Carlo. Someone else has to go with me when I go out places with it since they are the ones that have to store it in the trunk. imnomis |

Hi. I got a Levo stander a couple of years ago. It is good for standing, but nothing else. I originally thought it would be nice at work to stand at a podium or get books, plus to use at home for reaching shelves, etc. It is too long to be maneuverable and too heavy to enjoy pushing around/breaking down for in and out of a car. Also, I am used to pushing 25" rear wheels and the 24" seem very small and I get less power while pushing. Anyway, the stand feature does work well. And I do use it at home very rarely for putting away things up high that I will rarely use.

Hi,
I am not sure what Levo you were looking at. I have a power assist one. Have had it since 2003 or 4. I have a husband who can help work on it so it is great for me. I am a T-7 complete and I am looking into ordering my second one. I am not very gentle on things. It has a strap for my knees and a seatbelt. There is a little toogle switch on the right arm that takes me up and down. I cook put stuff away etc. Scared my wheel chair buyer pretty good when i first tried it out. leaning back and moving around. Wanted to make sure it was sturdy |
