botox for bladder
Hello all. I am a complete para T-4/5. I have been in my chair for 12 years now. I have had bladder problems from very begining leaking and infections. I finally have the infections under control but the leaking is still so annoying. I got botox for my bladder earlier this year and it worked wonderful. I live in Mi and had to go down to the Cleveland Clinic to get it done. I have two questions here both bladder related. I am going to New Zealand for a couple months come Feb. I would like to get the botox done again before I go.
Has anyone ever gotten it done more than once? If so does it work the same and last the same amount of time? If you could e-mail me any info that would be great. My second question is about this. I usually self cath every 2-4 hours. I can usually feel when I have to go so I will cath sooner if needed. The farthest I have flown is about 3 hours. I usually just cath before we go and then when if we change planes and then as soon as we get to final destination. The flight to New Zealand I believe is about 12 hrs from LAX. I am wondering if anyone else has ever encounterd doing this before. Should I just get a leg bag put in for the flight take it out when I get there and then put it in again before we come home again. I will have my fiancee with me so he can empty it for me on the flight. Anybody with info on any or both of these would be greatly appreciated. Have a great one...Katie katekorn78@yahoo.com |

Katie, I would advise you to remove your personal e-mail address from this message. When we go on long flights, we do as you suggest (put a indwelling catheter in for the flight, empty as needed, and remove upon arrival, then do the same on the return trip). This is OK'd by her urologist, who also has her take one Cipro when the catheter is inserted and another when it is removed. (KLD) |

My husband has had the botox treatment three times now. The first time, it only lasted about four months. The second time it lasted nine months. His urologist says it can last anywhere from 3 months to a year, and will probably vary in time span each time.
FYI, he has his done at the Toledo Hospital. The urologist is Dr. Haselhuhn. He seems to be very knowledgeable and experienced - if you can get your insurance to cooperate, you shouldn't have to go all the way to Cleveland...

Most people I know feel it lasts between 3-10 months.

Somewhat close to home..
Im just reading about bladder botox again. But I see you live in MIchigan and I do as well. Tomorrow I am going to Ann Arbor to have botox done. I don't see why you would have to go all the way to Cleveland?! This doctor is familiar with it and has done it many times. Just wanted you to know Cleveland isn't the only place!
