Bowel Program Question
If I have been doing the program for 2 yrs every other day, would it hurt to do it on the 3rd day once?

Although I regularly do my program monday, wednesday, friday I find I can skip wednesday or friday and do it the following day or skip monday and do it the sunday before. Having this flexibility is great, I just keep an eye on mt diet and how I'm feeling.

Bowel Program
While in the hospital for care of my initial SCI I was told that my bowel program would be pretty much the same as pre-SCI. For me that was daily, first thing in the morning. I have carried this routine over to post-SCI. It works well for me.

Procrastanator in this department...
However, it seems that my body had adjusted to my stubberness when it comes
to my program. I probably go every other day or every third day and it seems that it works for me. Also, when I drink coffee in the mornings it acts as a laxitave, thus making my life more simple. I almost never use a suppository because I feel that the more natural the better. Also it seems that I take up no more time using the restroom now than I did before the injury. More info. than most people probably want to know. hahah... |

Every other vs. every 3rd day
Most people do better with every other day. Some studies indicate increasing long term problems if bowel care is done less often than every 3rd day. The major precaution with going every 3rd day when you are used to every other is that your body develops a "habit" of when it evacuates. Skipping a bowel program day increases your risk for a bowel accident, but it is not unsafe for most people. Just be sure your stool is not too hard and that you watch for any AD associated with this (if you are at risk).
